Description

Additional photos of this 1975 Yamaha RD250 are available here for your perusal.

Introduced in 1973 (and produced through 1987), the RD250 was a popular option for youngster who wanted fun and a little attitude at a reasonable price. The ’75 model had revised cylinder heads and gear ratios, and it was the last year of the original styling before the coffin tank and speed block liveries came into play in 1976.

Here’s an entertaining take on “what the fuss was about” with the RD250 by Marc Ryan of Biker and Bike. He notes, “They were loud, annoying, brightly coloured and dangerous and old people complained about them. That was enough for us. We were helplessly in love from first sight. To own an RD and ride it like a dick was to be the coolest kid on the estate and became every spotty kid’s dream.”

Marc goes on to say that “the two most important things on a new RD owner’s shopping list were handlebars and expansion pipes.” Today’s example (VIN: 352-304486) has both of those taken care of, and more!

The seller of this example acquired it from Yoshi at Garage Company in 2001.

During that time he’s covered approximately 6,000-7,000 miles “around town and some canyon runs.” The odometer shows 10,528 miles but the seller states that the true mileage is unknown.

Modifications:
Before the seller purchased it, the engine was converted to a 350 (a “347cc” marking is present on the barrel).

We also believe it was repainted at some point as this orange was not a stock 1975 RD250 color.

Anodized aluminum DG heads and DG exhaust.

Hagon progressive fork springs.

Newtronic electronic ignition (and Moto Carrera rearsets in a box).

IKON chrome shocks with black springs.

Custom period cafe style seat.

Dropped bars and bar end mirror.

The sale includes some spare parts, a key, and a Haynes workshop manual. Please note that the pictured radiator is for a different bike and was accidentally included, that is NOT included in this sale.

Per the seller, the oil injection system is intact and cosmetically “it’s no garage queen but good condition for a bike of its age.”

The seller had us clean the carbs before it went up for bidding. However, Scott (our service manager) notes that there’s a bit of piston slap and the next owner should look into rebuilding the top end.

Currently located at our facility in Santa Monica, California, this RD250 is offered on a clean California title with registration current through April 2021.
