In 1993 and 1994, Yamaha sold a sport-touring bike that was far ahead of its time – the GTS1000. Full of technology that would not make its way to most bikes for years to come, the GTS featured fuel injection, ABS brakes, and most importantly, the RADD front suspension designed by James Parker. This suspension was able to isolate braking from damping, leading to increased performance in both aspects as well as more stability.

Yanked from the FZR1000, the Genesis engine was detuned but still made triple digit (102 hp) power.

The GTS gives you all the fun of a rare, quirky bike, but without the support-related drawbacks. You can use it everyday, and that’s one of the reasons why Bike magazine called it the ‘coolest of rare motorcycles’ ever made: “Scarce, stylish, yet capable and completely usable: that’s cool in our book.”

The seller of this example (VIN: JYA4HHE09PA000578) is the second owner.

The odometer shows 4,402 miles.

The seller is the second owner. He acquired it from the original owner’s family in May of 2017 after he passed away. “The bike wasn’t running and I had to go through an extensive detailed service which included a new fuel pump and fuel tank cleaning. All 4 spark plugs were replaced with Yamaha recommended plugs. New air filter. Full synthetic Yamaha oil and oil filter. Greasing front suspension swingarm and other greasing points recommended by service manual.” It has a new battery and the seller states the bike starts and runs like new.

The sale includes the rare OEM side bags, which were never installed. It comes with all mounting brackets required for installation if the next owner desires.

The tires are original – the seller kept them on as he wasn’t planning on riding it. “It’s part of my collection of bikes. I have another GTS which I ride daily.” With that in mind, the seller did not transfer the title in his name. It is currently located in Dallas, Texas and is offered on a clean blue Arkansas title.

It has a few scratches as well as a chip on the headlight which “doesn’t affect the headlight quality or cause any issues to pass road inspection.”

There are also two holes in the plastic dashboard from a GPS mount.

The sale includes the tool kit and a service manual

The seller states that his Yamaha has a brand new battery and that it starts and runs like new. Thanks to the recent mechanical refurbishment, this classic tourer is ready to cover many more miles in style.
